On December 12th, 2024, NextGenBioPest was presented at The Green Shift — a high-profile webinar highlighting pioneering research projects that are helping drive the European Union’s green transition. The event was organized by Smart Agro Hub, Europe Direct Attica, and Europe Direct Central Macedonia, and brought together experts, innovators, and stakeholders from across Europe.

Shaping a Sustainable Future for Agriculture

The Green Shift webinar focused on the vital role of technology and innovation in transforming the agricultural and food production sectors. Participants explored how research projects funded under Horizon Europe and other EU programs are developing solutions aligned with the Green Deal and Farm to Fork strategies — both central pillars of the EU’s sustainability agenda.

As a featured project, NextGenBioPest showcased its contributions to the future of crop protection. Through novel biological agents, RNA-based pesticides, green chemistry, resistance inducers, and data-driven ecological approaches, the project aims to reduce reliance on conventional pesticides while supporting productive, resilient, and environmentally friendly agriculture.

A Collaborative Platform for Progress

The webinar served as a platform for knowledge exchange and dialogue, connecting researchers and policy advocates with practitioners and the broader public. By highlighting real-world applications and innovations, the event emphasized how collaborative, cross-sectoral efforts are essential to building a more sustainable European bioeconomy.

NextGenBioPest’s participation reinforced its role not only as a research initiative but also as a catalyst for change — driving forward the adoption of eco-friendly plant protection methods and helping safeguard both food security and biodiversity.

Continuing the Conversation

As momentum builds across Europe to meet ambitious environmental targets, projects like NextGenBioPest demonstrate the power of research to deliver tangible, scalable solutions. The insights shared during The Green Shift will continue to inform future collaborations and inspire the next generation of sustainable agriculture leaders.
