We are excited to share the growing collaboration between the NextGenBioPest project and EUFAWREADY, a major new Horizon Europe initiative focused on the invasive fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda).
EUFAWREADY (“Enhancing Europe’s readiness for managing fall armyworm, an invasive pest threat”) launched in June 2025, bringing together 25 partners across research, industry, and advisory services to build tools for early detection, sustainable control, and preparedness for fall armyworm outbreaks in Europe.
This partnership with NextGenBioPest creates an important strategic link: NextGenBioPest’s expertise in biological control agents, microbial-based biopesticides, and eco‑friendly IPM aligns closely with EUFAWREADY’s ambition to offer safer, effective, and nature-based solutions for fall armyworm management. EUFAWREADY explicitly aims to “explore microbial agents” and other natural-enemy based strategies as part of its integrated pest-management toolbox.
By combining forces, the two projects can accelerate the development and deployment of next-generation biocontrol solutions. NextGenBioPest contributes its innovative toolkit — including novel biological control agents, diagnostics, and low-risk compounds — while EUFAWREADY provides a platform to apply and test these tools in the context of a pressing invasive pest threat.
This synergy also reinforces the shared goal of reducing Europe’s reliance on synthetic insecticides and fostering resilient, sustainable crop protection systems. As fall armyworm continues to pose a risk to European agriculture, such cross‑project collaboration is critical for building readiness, driving innovation, and safeguarding plant health across the continent.
NextGenBioPest looks forward to working closely with EUFAWREADY partners, contributing its biopesticide development capacities, and helping translate cutting-edge research into practical solutions for farmers, advisors, and plant health authorities.
