NextGenBioPest, at the forefront of reducing reliance on chemical pesticides, is developing an integrated toolkit to tackle the most difficult-to-manage arthropod pests and pathogens in key fruit and vegetable crops. With a focus on environmentally friendly solutions, the project is pioneering a combination of advanced diagnostics, novel Biological Control Agents (BCAs), RNA-based biopesticides, low-risk green chemicals, plant resistance inducers, and innovative agronomic practices.
BeXyl (Beyond Xylella), meanwhile, is driving the transition from emergency responses to strategic, long-term management of Xylella fastidiosa outbreaks. By leveraging the latest scientific insights, BeXyl works to implement robust prevention and containment strategies across Europe, aiming to safeguard plant health and biodiversity from this highly damaging pathogen.
Now, through a shared vision and complementary goals, NextGenBioPest and BeXyl are joining forces to accelerate the deployment of next-generation plant protection tools. The collaboration will focus on:
Knowledge and Resource Sharing: Joint access to diagnostic platforms, pathogen surveillance data, and pest management technologies.
Field-Level Integration: Coordinated pilot trials and demonstration sites to validate novel solutions in real-world agricultural settings.
Policy and Stakeholder Engagement: Unified outreach to policymakers, farmers, and extension services to support the adoption of sustainable practices.
Science-Based Containment Strategies: Applying NextGenBioPest innovations to help strengthen BeXyl’s integrated response to Xylella fastidiosa and similar threats.
This synergy embodies the EU’s commitment to transforming plant health management from reactive to proactive. By aligning with BeXyl, we amplify the reach and relevance of our solutions—not only to mitigate existing outbreaks but also to prevent future ones.
The partnership exemplifies a systems-based approach to agriculture, integrating biological, technological, and ecological innovations to ensure healthier crops, safer food, and a more sustainable planet.
Stay tuned for updates as this collaboration unfolds—bringing science from the lab to the field for a resilient agricultural future.
