NextGenBioPest at the Annual General Meeting of the Agricultural Cooperative of Tympaki Shareholders!
On September 10th, 2026, NextGenBioPest was presented to the shareholders of the Agricultural Union of Tympaki (AST) in Crete, Greece, during the union's Annual General Meeting. The presentation introduced the project to the farming community and shared the early stages of its field application, helping to communicate the project further among the people who are expected to benefit from its results.
Speaking Directly to Growers
Tympaki lies in the Messara plain, one of the most productive agricultural areas in Crete, known for its protected vegetable cultivation and horticultural production. The union brings together many local farmers, and its Annual General Meeting is a key moment in the year when shareholders gather to review activities and discuss the future of their cooperative.
Being given a place on the agenda of such a meeting is a valuable opportunity for any research project. It places the science directly in front of growers, in their own community, and in a setting where they are already discussing what matters most for their livelihoods.
From Research to Field Application
The presentation went beyond introducing the project's goals. It also showed how NextGenBioPest's solutions are beginning to be applied in the field, giving farmers a first look at how new approaches to pest management are moving from the laboratory towards real growing conditions.
For growers, this is the information that counts: Does it work in a real crop? How does it fit with what I already do? What could it mean for my costs and my yields? Early field results help answer these questions and build the trust that is essential for any new technology to be adopted.
Strengthening a Relationship With the Local Community
The union has already been part of the project's outreach in the region. In May 2026, the Agricultural Cooperative of Tympaki visited the Technical Professions High School of Moires to introduce students to sustainable agriculture and to NextGenBioPest. The Annual General Meeting presentation extends this relationship, reaching the shareholders themselves, who are the professional growers on the front line of pest management in Crete.
This kind of continuous, local engagement is at the heart of NextGenBioPest's approach: working with user communities and not just for them, so that research outcomes reflect real needs and find their way into practice.
