NextGenBioPest at ICA 2026!
NextGenBioPest was represented at the XVII International Congress of Acarology (ICA 2026), held in Montpellier, France, from 20 to 24 July 2026. Our partner, the Hellenic Agricultural Organization – DIMITRA (ELGO-DIMITRA), presented a poster on the use of a predatory mite as a biological control agent in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems.
A leading forum for the global acarology community
The International Congress of Acarology brings together researchers from around the world who study mites and ticks, and their roles in agriculture, ecosystems and public health. The 2026 edition in Montpellier gave the scientific community a platform to exchange recent findings, discuss emerging challenges and build new collaborations.
Poster presentation: Typhlodromus recki as a biological control agent
On behalf of the NextGenBioPest consortium, ELGO-DIMITRA presented the poster communication "Evaluation of Typhlodromus recki as a Biological Control Agent in Integrated Pest Management Systems" on 24 July 2026.
Predatory mites of the family Phytoseiidae are among the most valuable natural allies in sustainable crop protection. Assessing their potential as biological control agents is central to reducing reliance on conventional chemical pesticides and to building IPM strategies that are effective, environmentally sound and practical for growers. The poster contributes to this effort by evaluating Typhlodromus recki within IPM systems.
Sharing NextGenBioPest with the research community
Participation in ICA 2026 aimed to promote NextGenBioPest and raise awareness of its work among an international audience of researchers. The poster session allowed our colleagues to discuss the project's approach with specialists in the field, exchange knowledge and lay the groundwork for future scientific collaboration.
Looking ahead
NextGenBioPest continues to develop next-generation, bio-based solutions for pest management. Events such as ICA 2026 help ensure that the project's results reach the scientific community, and that they can inform research, innovation and eventual uptake in agricultural practice.
We warmly thank our colleagues at ELGO-DIMITRA for representing the project, and the organisers of ICA 2026 for a stimulating and well-run congress.
