NextGenBioPest in the Smart Innovation Symposium 2024!

Updated: Dec 19, 2024

The Smart Innovation Symposium 2024 successfully took place in Heraklion on September 27th, marking its first appearance in the Greek capital after two productive years in Heraklion at the Hellenic Mediterranean University campus. This one-day event brought together approximately 20 innovative Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from across Greece and Europe, spotlighting cutting-edge research and projects funded through national and European resources. The symposium served as an interactive hub where universities, industry professionals, and SME representatives connected to advance partnerships that bridge research with real-world applications.

The event format included both a dynamic exhibition and networking sessions, where attendees could engage directly with the research leaders and discover how SMEs are driving technological innovation in their fields. This unique setup fostered productive exchanges, aiming to create robust connections that will continue to support technological advancement, economic growth, and sustainability across the region.

Magma Agro: Representing NextGenBioPest in the Fight for Sustainable Agriculture

At the symposium, Magma Agro S.A. made a significant impact by representing the Horizon EU-funded NextGenBioPest project, a forward-thinking initiative aimed at sustainable crop protection and reduced pesticide reliance. Through an array of presentations and materials, Magma Agro highlighted their contributions to sustainable agriculture, including:

  • Poster Presentation: Magma Agro presented a poster detailing NextGenBioPest’s mission, key innovations, and progress in biological pest control, drawing attention to the project’s eco-friendly approach to agriculture.

  • Printed Handouts: Attendees were provided with informational handouts that summarized NextGenBioPest’s toolkit, featuring novel pesticides, diagnostics, and biological control agents for more sustainable pest management.

  • Booth Discussions: Magma Agro’s booth became a focal point for in-depth discussions, where participants could learn more about the project’s cutting-edge products and their practical applications.

  • One-on-One Networking: By participating in a speed-dating event, Magma Agro representatives engaged in one-on-one meetings with other attendees, establishing new partnerships and discussing potential collaboration opportunities.

  • Oral Presentation: During an oral presentation titled "Developing Innovative, Sustainable Products for Crop Protection & Animal Nutrition at MAGMA Agro S.A.," Magma Agro shared insights into its advancements in RNA-based pesticides, low-risk chemicals, and plant health promoters, emphasizing the impact of NextGenBioPest on sustainable agriculture.

Driving SME Innovation and Sustainability Through Collaboration

The Smart Innovation Symposium underscored the crucial role that SMEs play in shaping Europe’s research and innovation landscape. Events like these are essential for facilitating the exchange of ideas and expertise, as well as for strengthening partnerships between the academic and industrial sectors. The direct support of national and European funding programs makes these innovations possible, allowing SMEs to bring new, sustainable technologies to market.

Magma Agro’s participation highlighted the power of interdisciplinary collaboration, demonstrating the ways in which NextGenBioPest’s initiatives align with the EU’s green policies and contribute to a more sustainable agricultural sector.

Looking Ahead: A Stronger Network for Innovation

The Smart Innovation Symposium 2024 in Athens marked a successful chapter in the symposium’s history, extending its impact to a larger audience and setting the stage for further innovations. The event not only celebrated SME-driven research but also emphasized the importance of collaboration in building a resilient, resource-efficient European economy. With the event’s success in Athens, there is optimism that this gathering will continue to grow, fostering even deeper connections and more impactful partnerships for sustainable development in years to come.
