The Saint Saturnin les Avignon leisure center recently took part in a hands-on activity to support biodiversity and ecological awareness. On February 12, 2025, children helped plant two multi-species hedgerows on either side of the connected orchard, engaging in a participatory and educational experience that brought them closer to nature and sustainable agriculture.

This initiative aimed not only to enrich the local landscape but also to introduce young participants to the importance of hedgerows—natural structures that provide habitat for wildlife, act as windbreaks, and support pollinators and natural pest controllers. Through storytelling, observation, and planting activities, the children learned how these living barriers contribute to healthier ecosystems and more resilient farming.

The project offered a valuable opportunity to connect environmental education with real-world agricultural practices. By understanding the role of biodiversity in food production, the children gained insight into how sustainable farming benefits both people and the planet.

This activity reflects a broader commitment to promoting agroecological practices and fostering awareness from an early age. It was a day of curiosity, learning, and action—planting not just hedgerows, but the seeds of environmental stewardship for the next generation.
